United Nations Member Interest Group Leader, Representative at the U.N. , and Director, International Training Programs Division at Montana State University
Janelle Rasmussen has over twenty years of administrative and academic experience in the field of International Education. Janelle works closely with the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of State, Ministry of Education in Japan, among others throughout her career.
Janelle Rasmussen serves as NAFSA’s Secondary representative at the UN and communicates numerous UN, NGO educational opportunities available to NAFSA members and their institutions via listserves and social media. She maintains regular communications with NAFSA UN Member Interest Group (MIG) members via an established discussion forum. Janelle also serves as a resource, facilitating access to the UN for universities by providing information about UN tours, visits, and different experiences at the UN. Additionally, Janelle helps organize or host the annual UN MIG meeting at the national or regional conferences, collaborate with other reps to submit workshops or poster sessions at NAFSA conferences related to NAFSA work. Collaborates with other MIGs, such as the Peace and Justice MIG, to help plan a UN focused luncheon at the national NAFSA conference. Janelle mentors NAFSA youth reps at the UN to strengthen youth collaboration with member interests.
As Director of Professional Development and International Training Programs at Montana State University, Janelle oversees and manages the expansion of the university’s global reach and brand through the provision of customized professional development and short-term training programs for international participants. She ensures the delivery of high-quality/high-impact training experiences by overseeing curriculum, logistics and budgets. Janelle develops collaborative relationships between MSU and international partners, advising faculty with the design of custom academic, research, and /or career development short-term programs, creating programs that support cross-cultural understanding and awareness, managing program teams of up to twenty five staff members for various programs, and delivering support programming such as intake, orientation, recruitment-based university information sessions, and providing emergency response guidance.
Janelle’s experience is catered towards mentorship, professionalism and funding of higher education for international students.
